Club Med Turks & Caicos

We just returned from a week-long family vacation at Club Med Turks & Caicos. As our first blended family vacation, we wanted a place that would have something for everyone to do in a tropical setting. Our answers were found here, that's for sure! Bill and I spent plenty of hours at the beach relaxing with margaritas and the boys; William age 25, Adam age 23, Ben age 21 and Jason age 19 kept busy with water sports, ping pong, billiards and working out. Yes, of course, they did party until the wee hours of the night! The Turks & Caicos Islands are located approximately 579 miles from Miami, Florida. The majority of people visiting the island are from Europe and the east coast of the United States. Most of the flights connect either in Miami or New York (JFK) and land in Providenciales. From Miami it is approximately a 1 hour 10 minute flight and from New York it is approximately 3 hours 30 minutes. We live in Los Angeles, California and had quite a journey to get to the island. We left our house at 6:30 pm and including car travel, air travel and layovers, we arrived the next day at 2:30 p.m. after traveling for about 15 hours. The weather in Turks & Caicos is warm year round. When we were there, it was about 85 degrees and about 50% humidity. We had some rain, but it never stopped our activities. Even if we were at the beach or pool, it was not bothersome. The weather stays about this temperature year round, with some times being sunnier than others. They do get the humidity. Providenciales has been voted best beach many times before. When you visit it you will see why. The water is turquoise, clear and warm. It is a wonderful spot for snorkeling and world renowned for scuba diving. Club Med Turks & Caicos is a Four Trident property. This basically means that your accommodations are going to be pretty basic, the grounds might be a little on the older side and service is not what you would get at a 5-star resort. As long as you are aware of this before you go, it's not a problem. Traveling with our kids, we didn't care about the accommodations; we really wanted a good time. We arrived at the resort shortly after lunch time and we were starving. After being greeted by G. O.'s (staff members) we were escorted to Sharkie's, which is the restaurant on the beach that is open between lunch and dinner. They grill burgers, hot dogs and have french fries, salads and fruit. It was perfect and we ended up going there every day for an afternoon snack. Of course there is a bar there so you can get your fill of tropical drinks, local beer or soft drinks. On our last day, the G.O.s brought the buffet from the main dining room to Sharkie's and we had a wonderful beach barbeque with all sorts of salads, and goodies included. The main dining room is open for breakfast between 7-10am, lunch 12:15-2pm and dinner is 7:30-10pm. The food is always served buffet style and there is a daily theme for lunch and dinner. On Mexican night, they prepared delicious tacos with all the fixings, Italian night was full of delicious pastas and pizzas and French night they even had French onion soup and crepes. At lunch and dinner there are always many choices including a sandwich bar, salads, hot foods, homemade breads and plenty of desserts. At breakfast they have an omelet station, eggs, breakfast meats, breakfast pastries, potatoes and so much more. You are not going to be hungry at Club Med Turks! Let me not forget about the amazing pastries served at Club Med. The food is good, the pastries are absolutely fabulous. Night after night the pastry chefs come up with different delicacies to tempt even the people with the most will power in dieting. They are known for their white chocolate chip bread. I am here to say it is every bit as good as its reputation and probably even better! I am pretty particular about my sweets. I love them, but will only eat them if they are perfect. The white chocolate chip bread was heavenly and perfect each day of the trip. My hat goes off to the amazing team of culinary workers, especially the pastry team. When I say these kids kept busy, I really mean it! The choices were endless. They played billiards, ping pong, beer pong, water polo, water golf, water volleyball, land volleyball, basketball, trapeze, sailing, water aerobics and snorkeling. These activities are all included in your all-inclusive package. The boys went scuba diving and rented Jet Skis also. There is a scuba diving center at Club Med that you can arrange your dive trips with. You can also get certified by PADI if you are not certified for diving. There is a charge for all of these things. They rented the Jet Skis through the Excursion Center at Club Med. The boys got picked up at the resort and were taken to the beach where they had an afternoon full of fun Jet Skiing. There is a charge for this activity as well. There was a little down time for the boys, which consisted of relaxing poolside in their cabana. A nice covered poolside cabana is the perfect spot for some r& r as you can still see the action that is going on at the pool, take a little nap or have a cold drink. The G.O.s at the club are absolutely fantastic. They definitely know how to get the members to participate and they are full of life and spunk. They definitely add to the whole experience. As for entertainment, we were very impressed. An outside amphitheatre is the spot for the nightly show which consisted of live theater, musicals and Cirque de Soleil type shows. We enjoyed the shows and went back nightly to see what they had to offer. Each show was great. One night they had members of the audience participate in a fun and interactive game. Another night they gave away medals to anyone who participated in a sporting activity. I did enjoy watching my son get up on stage and do a little performance dance. It was really a great experience for our family. I cannot stress enough how much the boys enjoyed their trip. They have each told us that this is the best trip they have ever been on. That sure speaks volumes as they have all been to some pretty fabulous places. Club Med Turks & Caicos works for couples and is a sure bet for families with kids over 18. As for all-inclusives, this one is great!
