The Best Beaches in the World

The earth's surface is 71 percent water, and our oceans are filled with spectacular islands. With thousands of them, there are some that just capture our imaginations more than others. Distance is no object when a traveler desires the best of the best. Some of these islands, such as Bali, are more than an eight hour flight from the United States. For Americans, we can find island paradise, literally just offshore. So, whether your island desires take you around the world or across the globe, here is where to go to find secluded beaches and luxurious pampering. The tiny tropical island of Boracay in the Philippines is making a big splash. Debuting as number 4 in the World's Best Awards last year, it appeals to travelers with its natural beauty and it's still under the radar status. Chances are, you have not been there or done that. Often cited as the world's softest beach, White Beach is a 2.5 mile stretch of powder white sand lapped by the translucent Sulu Sea. The crown jewel of the 17,500 islands in the Indonesian archipelago is Bali. Known for its temples, Bali is the crown jewel of Indonesia. It offers travelers glimpses into Balinese Hindu history, thanks to a vibrant and hip cultural scene filled with dance and music. The best beach to watch the sun come up over the water is Sanur. For upscale resorts, gorgeous sunsets, and lively nightlife, head to Seminyak. Maui remains the golden child among Hawaii's island siblings. There is always something to explore, from the resort lined stretches of Wailea and Kaanapali to Haleakala's volcanic crater to the funky surf town of Paia. The best beach, Napili Beach, is a crescent of golden sand lapped by blue-green sea. It is slightly out of the way, but well worth the effort to get there. Sleepy Kauai's old school charms and serene landscape will soothe even the most frantic urbanite. Two things you must see when visiting Kauai are the dramatic Na Pali Coast and Waimea Canyon. Both places are layered with scenic hiking trails. If you are seeking fun in the sun, stay on Poipu Beach in the south. For an untamed panorama, stroll Lumahai Beach, located between Hanalei and Princeville. Vancouver Island, British Columbia is a playground for hikers, kayakers, and whale watches. The island is covered in stately pine forests that shelter endangered birds. It is surrounded by waters filled with crabs, oysters, and other shellfish. It is accessible by ferry or seaplane from the city of Vancouver. The best beach here is Chesterman Beach in Tofino. It is ideal for big wave watching in the winter and quiet strolls during the summer. No matter what season it is, brave surfers cannot stay away from those Pacific swells. The Big Island of Hawaii is Hawaii's wild child. It is an adventure zone, filled with lava treks. The volcano located there, Kilauea, is still active. Enjoy stargazing atop 13,796 foot Mauna Kea and night dives with manta rays. The Big Island has 80 beaches stretching its coastline. Two of the best are the black sand beach of Punaluu Beach or green hued Papakolea Beach. When it's time to plan your next beach vacation, make sure to contact our Experts.
