The Halekulani, Hawaii

First of all, this was our third time at the hotel.  I love it!  The Halekulani is a true gem, right in the middle of Waikiki but without the craziness.  It is a very peaceful place.

We had an Ocean View room, which was lovely, but I highly recommend an Ocean/Diamond Head view.  We had that room type last time.  It is so beautiful to see both the ocean and Diamond Head, especially at sunset.

The rooms were recently refurbished and they did a beautiful job.  The only negative is the bathrooms do not have double sinks.  I do believe the suites have double sinks.

The spa is small; however they do a terrific job.  My husband and I both had FABULOUS massages!

The main restaurant for breakfast is very good.  They have every possible choice of food that you can think of.  It is very expensive, but as a Signature amenity, you get breakfast included.  It is a really great value added amenity that we can offer you.

There are two other restaurants in the hotel (both very highly rated) that are supposed to be fantastic.  We chose to go out of the hotel and walk to dinner.  There are really great restaurants in Honolulu/Waikiki and the surrounding areas.  It is a very hard choice to pick which ones to go to!  I heard that TOWN is the new hot restaurant.  We just didn’t have the time to go there.  The first night we ate at the bar at The Yard House, which is a perfect choice when you are tired and not into a huge meal.  We went to BLT Steakhouse at Trump, which was very yummy.

If you have been to the Big Island or Maui, you will be familiar with Merriman’s.  They have recently opened up a more casual restaurant called Monkeypod and have locations in Waikiki and Wailea, Beach.  This is a great spot for lunch or a super casual dinner.  They have a nice selection of salads, sandwiches (house-made bread), pastas, pizzas and more.  They have a large selection of imported and draft beers.  The food is delicious and you simply must not skip dessert.  The pies are all house-made and are delicious.

On another note:  after Waikiki, we drove to our timeshare (yes, we have one!) out in Ko Olina.  This is the area where the Disney Resort Aulani is located.  Aulani looks great.  They have recently done some upgrades to the property.  The hotel is very beautiful and is a fabulous vacation for families.  It’s Hawaii meets Disney… a great experience and not too over-the-top with Disney details.

I would highly recommend The Halekulani to anyone wishing to stay in the Waikiki area.  We love it and will definitely visit again.
