The Island Hotel in Newport Beach, California

I recently had the chance to stay for a weekend at The Island Hotel in Newport Beach, Ca.  Being part of The Irvine Company (includes The Resort at Pelican Hill and many other hotels, shopping malls and real estate), I had high expectations.  I have to say, those expectations were met and actually exceeded.  I really liked everything about the hotel.

I chose The Island Hotel for its location, which is on the same grounds as Fashion Island shopping mall and about a 15 minute walk to Balboa Island.  Fashion Island is home to many designer boutiques, several high-end department stores and great cafés and restaurants.  You actually don’t ever need to take your car out, which I think is a plus.    

If you are not familiar with Balboa Island, it is a charming island with homes, stores and restaurants.  Surrounded by the ocean and the bay, there are only beaches with small waves, making it a perfect spot for the kiddies to play in the water.  You can also take a ferry (you can walk, drive or ride your bike onto this ferry) which takes you to the Newport Beach side.  Here you will find a great beach with nice waves and plenty of beach space, a boardwalk to ride bikes or walk and some shops and restaurants. 

The staff at The Island Hotel was superb.  The valet parking staff was so friendly and attentive, the bellhops were also friendly and provided great assistance with our luggage and walking directions whenever we needed them and check-in was seamless.

We had a Bayview King room, which was spacious and really pretty.  With a view of the Back Bay, it gave us the feel of really being somewhere far away.  The bed was very, very comfortable and had lots of pillows… with an extensive pillow menu, you can only imagine!!!  The bathroom was spacious, with a shower/bathtub combo and plenty of counter space.

We upgraded our room to the Lounge level, which was lovely and included buffet breakfast daily and happy hour daily including appetizers, wine and beer and soft drinks.  All attended to by hotel staff in a beautiful and cozy room.

The hotel is home to The Aqua Lounge, a very hip lounge with music playing nightly.  You can find lots of locals mingling around the lounge as well as guests of the hotel.

I very comfortably recommend The Island Hotel for those wanting to visit Newport Beach and keep their accommodation budget down.  It offers everything you could need for a family or multi-generational vacation, couples or singles.  My girlfriend and I left our families and hubbys at home and went for our Girl’s Shopping Weekend… it is so perfect for that!!!
