Le Taha'a Island Resort and Spa, Taha'a, South Pacific

I would have to say my most recent vacation experience was one of my favorites. We flew direct from Los Angeles to Faa'a airport in Tahiti. From there we took a short flight and a short boat ride to Tahaa and checked into the La Taha'a Island Resort and Spa. The check-in process is exclusive as they only handle one guest at a time, asking us several questions regarding our hopes and desires for this trip. By the end of our stay there, we realized each and every want had been met in traditional Tahitian style. By this I mean with warmth and personalized service, as the Tahitians are so well known for. We were transported to our over water bungalow in a small intimate water vehicle. From the research I had done on the property during the planning process, I had high expectations. I had no idea just how amazing this experience would be. Inside the bungalow, there is a glass floor which actually opens so you can see and touch the fish and the windows open allowing the Tahitian air to flow through. The bathtub and shower are separate and there is even a glass floor in the bathroom that you can look through while relaxing in the tub. We enjoyed our meals in privacy on our balcony, which afforded us views of the beautiful sunrises and sunsets. We even had breakfast brought to us one morning by canoe. Each morning I woke up early and took a swim in the beautiful lagoon right outside our bungalow. What an amazing experience seeing the fish swimming around me like that. There is no better way to start your day in paradise! I am still dreaming about this bungalow. I am a foodie and this certainly influenced my decision on staying at La Taha'a. It is a true culinary experience. For dinner, we enjoyed gourmet cuisine at The Ohiri Gourmet, which has an intimate and cozy atmosphere. The cuisine is a French/Polynesian fusion and is delicious. The wine list is extensive and certain to please even the pickiest oenophiles. We loved their casual beach restaurant, La Plage, where you can dine with your feet in the sand. Le Vanille is set among the trees and is great for a casual breakfast or dinner. One day we experienced a beautiful picnic on a private islet arranged by the hotel concierge. Another highlight was a Tuesday night buffet dinner followed by a traditional Tahitian evening with folkloric songs and dances and a spectacular fire dance. While we really did want to focus on relaxation, we did enjoy some island activities. The snorkeling is beautiful as the resort has a coral reef and shallow enough for all to enjoy. We kayaked, visited a vanilla plantation and a pearl farm. The Spa by Le Taha'a is located in a beautiful garden surrounded by bamboo trees. I enjoyed a massage and scrub made from local ingredients. This was truly a perfect Tahitian experience. There is also a fitness center and tennis court. After 4-nights at this amazing resort, we left feeling quite happy and relaxed. If you are a couple looking for the most romantic experience, this is an absolute must!
