The Langham Pasadena Located in Southern California

I had the opportunity to do a site inspection and an overnight stay at The Langham Pasadena this past weekend. We live only about 30 miles away, but we felt like we were far, far from home. The beautiful resort is set amidst an upscale residential community in Pasadena called San Marino. The charming houses in the area are beautiful and decorated so cheerfully for the holidays. Located just minutes from downtown Los Angeles, Pasadena is the perfect spot for business travelers and leisure travelers alike. Old Town Pasadena is located just a few minutes from the resort and has lots of fun shops, restaurants and bars to explore. Before we checked in, we had lunch at a charming cafe in an area called Shopper's Lane, which is filled with cafes and unique and fun shops. As soon as we turned into the driveway of the resort, we knew we were somewhere special. There is a very subdued sign welcoming guests followed by a tree lined circular driveway. The valet attendants whisked our car away and the bellhop was quick to take our luggage. They were all very polite and welcoming. The resort has the feel of an old glamorous Hollywood style hotel. I loved it from the first moment. The property spans over 23 acres, but it has the feel of a small and intimate boutique style hotel. The lobby was decorated beautifully for the holidays with a Christmas tree in the center and plenty of other festive decorations surrounding it. In one area they had a Winter Wonderland made up of gingerbread, crafted by the chefs that work there. There are plenty of picture windows to view the gardens just outside the main area. The front desk attendant welcomed us, gave us some information to make our stay more enjoyable and then gave us directions to our room. We had a beautiful room on the 4th floor overlooking the entire property. From that level, you get a view of the gardens below as well as the houses in the neighborhood. We had a Deluxe King room, which was spacious and nicely appointed. There was a large very comfortable bed, a writing desk, a lounging chair and television. The bathroom, complete with marble floors, even had a separate shower and tub, one of my very favorite things! On the site inspection, I was shown around the entire property. There are 2 buildings with guest rooms. One is the original building from the early 1900's and the other one was built shortly after that. The original building has 8 floors, the top 2 being the Concierge Level. The rooms located on these floors are mostly suites and give you access to the Concierge Lounge where they serve mini meals throughout the day including drinks and cocktails from a full bar for Happy Hour. A fun historic fact is that there is a typewriter in the lounge that once belonged to Ernest Hemingway. I even typed a letter on it, just for fun. The newer of the two buildings is smaller and surrounds the pool. Some of the rooms on the lower level have direct access to the pool. Of course, all of them have a beautiful view of the resort pool. The most spectacular suite on the property is the Presidential Suite. They call it the Tournament of Roses Parade suite. Normally they do not give tours of this suite, but for some reason I got lucky and it was available for a tour. It is absolutely spectacular including 2 floors, 2 separate bedrooms, a baby grand piano, full living room, large dining room and regal furnishings. There are views of the resort and the mountains from many different windows. There are also 8 charming cottages located on the property. These are situated near the tennis courts and feel very secluded. There are 1 and 2 bedroom cottages making them perfect for the whole family. We visited The Tap Room for drinks after dinner. This is the lounge in the hotel and is popular with guests as well as locals from the community. There was piano music playing and great drinks and appetizers were being served. This is a perfect spot for happy hour, meeting friends or an intimate after-dinner drink. The Royce is fine dining and is superb. The chef always uses herbs from the garden on the property and is very innovative. He is highly acclaimed and people come from all over to experience the cuisine here. If you want to dine here, it is definitely recommended to make a reservation ahead of time. This is something our Experts would do as a courtesy to their clients. The Terrace serves a wonderful buffet or ala carte breakfast. Superb food and a beautiful view of the resort pool. They are also open for lunch and casual dinner. Don't mistake this for a coffee shop as it is far from that. It is a charming, lovely little spot that serves great food. The spa is equipped with many treatment rooms, a locker room, spa, sauna and many other special amenities. Entrance to the spa is complimentary to resort guests. If you want any treatments such as massage and facials, those are at an additional cost. They base their treatments off of Eastern philosophies and it is a very peaceful and relaxing place. Don't miss the Chuan Body + Soul which incorporates traditional Chinese medicine services to provide comprehensive wellness. There are lots of goodies to take home to extend your relaxation. If you are a fan of The Bachelorette television show, you will know that The Langham Pasadena is the perfect spot for a wedding. The latest bachelorette and her fiance were just married there and the grounds looked unbelievable. There are plenty of on-staff wedding planners just waiting to make your wedding dreams come alive. They can also arrange for a complete wedding weekend with all sorts of festivities. This is the perfect destination wedding location. I was so impressed with the resort that I promptly called my best girlfriend and told her we are going to stay there for a girl's weekend. We will be doing that in February and we will definitely take advantage of the spa, Concierge Level and many other things offered. I can't wait to go back. I highly recommend The Langham Pasadena as an easy get-a-way for local people and for a longer stay for those traveling from further away. With its close proximity to Disneyland and other popular attractions in Southern California, it is perfect for families with kids. I would also highly recommend it for an intimate couple's get-a-way. The history and the feel of the resort take you back to more glamorous romantic times.
