Club Med Ixtapa, Mexico
As a single mom traveling with two teenage boys, I wanted a vacation where I did not have to worry about getting lost in a foreign country and exchange rates. The kids wanted something with plenty of water activities and lots of food. This is how our final decision ended up being Club Med, Ixtapa.
We left Los Angeles bound for Club Med, Ixtapa on a beautiful June morning. We were greeted at the airport in Mexico by Club Med staff members who directed us to our bus and off we went. About 30 minutes later, we arrived at the beautiful Club Med, Ixtapa. The buildings are all hacienda style and covered in bright pink bougainvillia. The entire staff is there to give you a warm and welcoming greeting, which makes us feel immediately comfortable. A quick check in process and you are escorted to your room to get unpacked and freshen up. So far, it could not have been easier. Our room for the week was spacious and nicely decorated. This and many other Club Med resorts worldwide have had multi million dollar renovations. The rooms were so much nicer than the previous Club Med I had been to many years ago. We were sure going to enjoy this!
Next stop was to enjoy lunch in the indoor/outdoor cafe. I enjoy healthy cuisine and the boys were looking for hamburgers and french fries. Everyone found what they wanted and then some. At all meals, there were plenty of choices for people with different tastes. The food is presented nicely, tastes great and is always warm and fresh. They did have regional specials and many other choices. At the first meal we had there, the boys and I sat by ourselves. As we met other families, we enjoyed sharing meals with them at large family style tables.
The boys were busy from sun up to well after sun down with activities at the Kid's Club. They took sailing lessons, learned to fly on a trapeze, snorkeled, played basketball and many other things. The GO's (counselors) are fabulous with the kids and everyone had a great time. The kids even put on a stage show one evening with costumes and music! When I wasn't relaxing beach or poolside with a cold tropical drink, I busied myself in the state-of-the-art fitness center and took water aerobics classes at the resort pool. I had so much fun doing that! After dinner, the kids would spend time with their friends and that gave me a chance to go to the club and enjoy some dancing and adult time.
After 7-nights, we were not ready to leave. We had so much fun that we would have been happy staying another 7-nights! Overall, this was a wonderful vacation and everyone got what they wanted from their vacation experience. The fact that I did not have to worry about anything at all was a huge success. I would definitely recommend Club Med for families looking for great value and an easy and fun vacation.
