Italian Favorites

Our 5 favorite places to see in Italy. We love Italy, so narrowing it down was not easy. Consider these the "must see" destinations. Visit them and you'll have experienced the highlights.

#5 - Med Cruise. While we all have favorites - and Italy is a favorite of many in our office - cruising is a great way to sample many of Italy's greatest destinations. Venice, the Amalfi Coast, Sorrento, Florence, Rome and more are all within easy reach of a port. Azamara does a great job with Italy - you'll truly become immersed in the destinations! Seabourn is a great option if luxury is the goal.

#4 - The Amalfi Coast. Warm summers and mild winters make this a great region to visit. Positano and Ravello are among the highlights. Great local vineyards make this a foodies' heaven. Getaway to Capri, where the Blue Grotto will entrance you, or to Naples and on to the ruins of Pompeii, and you can turn this trip into a well-rounded vacation.

#3 - Venice. Known for being one of the most romantic cities in Europe, "The Floating City" is among Italy's most visited destinations. Beyond the obligatory serenade on a gondola, highlights include St. Mark's Basilica (arrange to skip the line), Murano for the beautiful glass, and Burano and its colorful houses. We love the Luna Hotel Baglioni near Piazza San Marco.

#2 - Tuscany. A foodies delight, a host of culinary themed travel opportunities await lovers of good food and wine. Bike through the rolling hills, enjoy a hilltop tour of Tuscany or drive to the Adriatic side, where there are more locals than tourists. This area is known for its paintings, sculptures & architectural masterpieces. Do you love gelato? This is the place to enjoy it!

#1 - Rome. The capitol city of Italy, Rome, has an endless supply of beautiful fountains, historically significant churches and architecture to admire. The must see sights include a visit to The Vatican (don't miss the Sistine Chapel), the Coliseum, the Pantheon and the Trevi Fountain. Dine outdoors and indulge your taste buds with a big bowl of pasta and a good wine and slow down the pace.
