Club Med Ixtapa

Our partner and Expert Penny recently returned from Club Med Ixtapa where she vacationed with her husband and their 15 year old granddaughter and her best friend. The consensus was this was a hit for everyone. There is a charter that leaves for Club Med Ixtapa from Los Angeles International Airport every Saturday, making it super easy to get to this destination in 3 1/2 hours. Once you arrive, Club Med has two options for ground transfers. If you are staying in a suite, you have a private transfer for whoever is traveling in your party. When you stay in the regular rooms, you have a shared transfer. Both options are about a 35 minute drive from the airport to the resort. Club Med supplies you with bottled waters along the way. Upon arrival at the village, each GM (traveler) is given a wrist band confirming that you are staying there. They are color coded for those under and over 18, assuring that alcohol is not served to anyone under the legal drinking age. The bands for GM's under 18 allow for soft drinks and smoothies. The colored bands for those over age 18 give you access to soft drinks, smoothies, wine, beer and alcoholic beverages. Penny and her family stayed in the Sol Suites, which she highly recommends. These suites are situated in a separate section of the resort and come with amenities including a private concierge to make your dinner and activity reservations as well as ungraded room amenities. They arrived just in time for lunch in the Main Dining Room and they were totally pleased with the selection and quality of foods served. There were ample choices for everyone's tastes and desires. If you had dietary restrictions, that was never a problem. Lunch is served buffet style and included salads and bread choices, sandwiches, entrees, fruit and plenty of desserts. The desserts stand out and are simply wonderful. Penny agrees with our other Experts who have visited Club Med Villages in the past and says that the white chocolate chip bread is worth every calorie! Breakfast and dinner are also served buffet style in the Main Dining Room, with plenty of food choices. Each day there is a theme in the club and the restaurant follows along with that theme. Penny and her husband have dined in many fine restaurants around the world and they really enjoyed the food here. The specialty restaurant is called Azul and is wonderful. There is outdoor seating and they serve steaks, fish and plenty of other options. This is a sit down, a la carte style restaurant. There is no extra charge, but you must make a reservation. As for activities, they are abundant. The teenagers loved the club and spent plenty of time there. The village offers kayaking, sailing, trapeze lessons, snorkeling, fitness center, fitness classes and much more. For an additional charge you can scuba dive, ride a banana boat, take a short boat trip to their private island for lunch; go on a boat charter and more. Club Med Ixtapa prides itself on their kids programs. They are broken down into age groups and the G.O's entertain the children with age appropriate activities. There is nightly entertainment, an outdoor BBQ and fireworks as well. At first Penny and her family were a little worried about going to Club Med simply because they had been years ago and the clubs were a bit outdated. Her mind was at ease immediately after arrival just seeing that the resorts were so beautiful now. Throughout her stay, her thoughts were reinforced as they took note of all the upgrades Club Med has done to their villages, cuisine, services and activities. Penny highly recommends staying in the suites. She feels that you get more space and the amenities add to the enjoyment of your family vacation. The Sol Suite is the top suite and comes with 1 King bed and you can add a cot for the children. The suite is approximately 750 square feet. The Family Suites fit 4 people and are beautiful and spacious. Some of Penny's favorite activities included Pilates classes, Zumba classes, water aerobics and visiting the spa for massages. The kids enjoyed the trapeze the best, but said it was a very hard decision to come up with their one favorite activity . Another successful family trip to Club Med Ixtapa. Penny would love to take her family back to Club Med Ixtapa or perhaps another Club Med location. The girls cannot wait until their next school break to go again!
