Mukul Golf & Beach Resort, Nicaragua

 

Mukul is set on a large estate facing the beautiful Pacific Ocean in Nicaragua.  There is a private main beach, which is over one mile long, and another smaller beach a short 5 minute ride from the resort.  The resort provides transportation to this beach and will set up a picnic lunch for you.  You can enjoy a perfect afternoon of sun bathing and relaxing. 

Upon arrival, guests will notice the vast beauty of the property.  The main building with a high palapa and views of the pool and ocean capture your attention.  The architect that built Mukul is the same design team that built One & Only Palmilla and Las Ventanas.  They designed them with enormous open spaces, wide views of the sea and white walls. 

The resort is home to two restaurants; one that serves all day dining in an open air terrace and a fine dining restaurant that serves gourmet fare, a la carte items and  offers a tasting menu.  There is also 24-hour room service available for those not wanting to leave their room, or if you get hungry at any time that the restaurants are not open.  The food is delicious and consists of Nicaraguan beef, fresh fish, farm to table produce, colorful tropical fruits and delicious sweets for dessert.

As for accommodations, there are three different types.  The first choice, the Bohios, are glass enclosed bungalows.  Located on a hill and overlooking the Pacific, these are perfect if you want privacy and want to feel like you are secluded from the rest of the world.  All of the Bohios have plunge pools, terraces and spacious living areas and bathrooms.  They are approximately 800 square feet.

If you desire being closer to the ocean and the main building, you can stay in an Ocean View Villa or Beachfront Villa.  The villas are spacious at 1,800 square feet with large indoor/outdoor showers, a large living area, terrace and a large private pool.  For families, the Casona Don Carlos Villa is perfect.  It offers a large beachfront villa with a connecting 2 bedroom suite.  This villa can accommodate up to 16 guests.  People rave about the Bohios that face the ocean, with unobstructed views of the ocean, through the vegetation and trees.

The drive from Managua airport is approximately 2 hours.  The road you take runs through the countryside and offers beautiful views of mountains, local villages and volcanoes.  Most of it is paved, with a short piece of it currently under construction.  The road will be fully paved later this year.  There is also a helicopter that can pick you up at the airport and transfer you directly to the resort.  It is a 20 minute breathtaking flight over Nicaragua.

Mukul offers guests an excellent value for their travel dollars.  Room rates include breakfast and lunch daily for 2, drinks and soft drinks until 5pm daily, and airport transfers when you stay 3 nights or longer.

This fall, Mukul will introduce 28 new private villas near the main gate of the estate.  There will be 4 bedroom state-of-the-art villas with pools.  There are also plans to build a runway near the hotel to accommodate private planes and other flights directly into the area.  The resort also plans to open tennis courts and a beach club.
